AIGER sand filters-which utilize quartz sand as a filtration medium for wastewater purification-generally fall into two categories: the conventional quartz sand filter (also known as a shallow-bed media filter), and an emerging type known as the continuous sand filter (or moving-bed sand filter).
Unlike conventional sand filters, this latter type ingeniously separates the filtration and sand-washing processes, allowing them to occur simultaneously and independently within different sections of the unit. This design eliminates the need for a dedicated clear-water tank or high-power backwash pumps, thereby ensuring continuous and stable filtration operations.
